The Camogie Association and the GAA have announced that the GAA commercial team has been retained to represent the Camogie Association’s commercial rights for the next three years.

We recently spoke to the Camogie Association president Hilda Breslin to find out what this exactly means for Camogie as a whole going forward. Speaking to Scoreline she said;

“The reality is we need to leverage our sponsorship and commercial rights and on some level, it has been untapped. We have been doing it ourselves over the last number of years and we need to step it up a level.”

“The GAA is very good at this and they have huge expertise. To us, it seems a natural alliance.”

“They are very knowledgeable of sport, knowledgable of women sport and knowledgable of the media rights packages. So it is a win for them as well as us.”

The amalgamation of all the associations seems to be on the minds of the Gaelic community and with clubs around the country agreeing to merge under “Croke Park One Club” guidelines, is this move a step closer to making that happen?

The last time we spoke to Hilda, she mentioned that if everything was to start from scratch, all of the associations (Camogie, GAA, LGFA) would be the one association, and speaking with us again she stood by that statement

“It is a natural alignment. We are the Gaelic games family and the crossover is huge between all of us. If we were to be founded today, realistically we would be the one association.”

“For us, it is the obvious place to go.”
