Limerick look set to add highly regarded strength and conditioning coach Cairbre Ó Cairealláin to their backroom team as the All-Ireland champions aim to build on their recent success.

Mikey Kiely left his role as strength and conditioning coach with the All-Ireland champions following their second consecutive All-Ireland title this year to take up a full-time role with Ulster Rugby as Athletic Performance Coach.

It is expected that Ó Cairealláin will be officially announced as Kiely’s successor by the end of this week at the latest.

The 34-year-old was part of Tipperary’s All-Ireland winning management team in 2019 as Liam Sheedy’s return to the Premier County ended with a third All-Ireland title of the decade.

The former Antrim minor hurler worked with several of the Limerick squad when they were under the stewardship of Anthony Daly at the Limerick Hurling Academy.

Ó Cairealláin’s experience goes beyond hurling, with the highly sought after coach having spent six months with Premier League club Arsenal’s academy before joining the Gunners’ women’s side in 2015.
