If you’re going to be making the long trip from Ballyhale to Salthill on a regular basis, you may as well do it in style.
Henry Shefflin is trading the black and amber of Kilkenny for the maroon and white of Galway as he’s set to lead the Tribesmen for at least the next two seasons.
Of note, he’ll be in Pearse Stadium to welcome mentor and former manager Brian Cody to Galway on the May Bank Holiday weekend as the two Leinster hurling heavyweights clash in round three of the 2022 championship.
However, there’s a lot of road to cover between here and then – quite literally – and Shefflin will be getting a hand from Galway’s Connolly Motor Group by way of a brand new Mercedez Benz E-Class.
A short post to social media earlier in the week from Connolly’s revealed the details.
“👑THE KING HAS ARRIVED! 👑
“Connolly’s Mercedes-Benz Galway are delighted to welcome the newly appointed Galway GAA Senior Hurling Manager Henry Shefflin as a brand ambassador. 👏
“Henry is pictured here collecting his stunning all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class from General Manager Damien Kenny. 🚗📸
We look forward to working with Henry and wish him and all the team the best of luck with the upcoming season.”
While the national hurling league fixtures have yet to be confirmed it is expected that Shefflin’s first league game in charge of the Tribesmen will come against former clubmate and Kilkenny teammate, Michael Fennelly with Offaly heading to Salthill on 6 February.
Per the provisional list of fixtures seen by Scoreline.ie, Galway will then travel to Limerick on 12 February before hosting Wexford on 27 February. It’s away to Cork on 5 March before wrapping up their Division 1A regular games by welcoming neighbours Clare to Pearse Stadium on 21 March.
