Andy Murray has been given a wild card for January’s Australian Open.
It will be the Scot’s first appearance at the Grand Slam since 2019 when he questioned his ability to play at the highest level.
The two-time Wimbledon champion was set to take part in last year’s event before testing positive for Covid-19.
“I’m really excited to be back playing at the Australian Open,” Murray said.
“I’ve had some great times in Australia playing in front of the amazing crowds and I can’t wait to step back out on court at Melbourne Park.”
The 34-year-old is a five-time runner up in Melbourne, where he will be hoping to begin his march back up the rankings from his lowly position of 134th following multiple long-term injuries that have hampered his career recently.
Tournament director Craig Tiley said: “Andy is renowned for his fighting spirit, passion and love of the game and I’m delighted to welcome him back to Melbourne in January.”
