There’ll be no rugby happening this weekend – at least for the adult grades in the Leinster League.
As of Thursday evening, just in time for this week’s edition of The Knock On rugby podcast, Leinster had followed Connacht in scrapping all adult games in the men’s divisions.
The Paul Flood cup and a number of women’s friendlies have also fallen to Covid-19.
A survey of clubs yesterday showed almost 50% of this weekend’s fixtures would have be postponed due to Covid concerns.
Youth fixtures, at time of writing, a proceeding as normal.
Speaking to The Knock On, Kilkenny’s James Blanchfield expressed his disappointment on the news.
“We have a very disappointed cohort of players now who were really looking forward to this weekend.”
“It’s the situation we find ourselves in at the moment and there’s nothing we can do about it, unfortunately.”
“We had two games called off [due to Covid pre-Christmas]. We were due to play Bective and Ashbourne over Christmas and those games haven’t got ahead so we’ll share the points on those.”
“It probably suits us now as well (to not have the games).”
