Dicksboro 1-15
Mooncoin 1-14
Dicksboro have advanced to the JJ Kavanagh & Sons U21 A Hurling Championship final following their defeat of Mooncoin on Sunday afternoon.
It was a tentative start to proceedings on a bitterly cold afternoon at Mooncoin GAA Grounds and the game seemed to take as long as the supporters to warm-up with neither side able to find any rhythm in their play in the early stages.
Dicksboro edged the opening quarter by 0-04 to 0-03 before pulling further ahead at the interval as they began to flex their muscles to the detriment of the hosts.
They were more than deserving of their 0-10 to 0-06 lead at half-time and the home supporters in attendance would have been worried that their team were in for a long second half.
That was no the case, however, as Mooncoin rallied to drag themselves back into the game.
Both sides exchanged well-taken goals and a cluster of points from both sets of forwards who had finally found their radar meant there was only one-score between the sides as the game entered the final fifteen minutes, Dicksboro 1-13 to 1-10 Mooncoin.
The town side closed the game out after the second half water break as their bigger squad proved vital in an encounter that didn’t take long to become a war of attrition between two spirited sides.
Dicksboro will now take on Ballyhale Shamrocks in the final after they defeated Thomastown on a scoreline of 1-15 to 2-10 earlier this month.
