There’s a busy night in store for IT Carlow.
As the Sigerson Cup moves into the second round, the college’s footballers are at home from 7.30pm to Sligo IT.
They’ll be looking for a bounce-back victory having surrendered a late lead to Letterkenny IT last week.
With four minutes left to play, IT Carlow held a 1-10 to 0-09 lead but a Keelan McGroddy goal and scores from Jason McGee and Rory O’Donnell edged the game 1-13 to 1-11 in favour of the Donegal side. Sligo were comprehensively beaten last week 4-15 to 0-07 by UL.
Pat Critchley’s men will have their work cut out for them on the home campus this evening but last weekend’s narrow defeat should spur them on for a win.
At the slightly earlier time of 7pm, DJ Carey’s college hurlers get their 2022 Fitzgibbon Cup started away to Waterford IT at the WIT Arena.
Mary I get the ball rolling this afternoon against UCC at 2pm while NUI Maynooth take on DCU from 7pm. The late game of this evening’s first-round action sees NUI Galway travel to Dublin to take on UCD at 7.45pm.
IT Carlow will be hosting the finals of both competitions next month.
