Kilkenny lost out to Waterford in their opening National Hurling League game yesterday 14 points to 10 at Walsh Park.
It’s 7 years since the Deise beat the cats and could have won by more but hit 18 wides.
Kilkenny lost Colin Fennelly on a second yellow with four minutes to play.
Manager Brian Cody was pleased with his sides effort despite the result and admitted that the better team won on the day…..
Ahh yeah i mean it was tough going, heavy conditions theres no doubt about that, tough conditions enough but the better team won the game theres no doubt about that.
To be fair, Waterford had a lot of wides, you know it could have been more comprehensive on the scoreboard really, theres no doubt about that, look it was our first game, we had no game or any kind on preparation for it.
We had no challenge match, we had no Walsh Cup match, we had nothing at all, you know match fitness doesn’t just happen straight away, look, lost by 4 points, could have lost by more but you know the effort was good.
Oisin Langan and Michael Walsh were there for KCLR to call the action – listen back below to full commentary of the game.
Kilkenny welcome Tipperary to Nowlan Park on Sunday 21st February.
