IT Carlow have booked themselves a place in the Fitzgibbon Cup Semi-Final.

They welcomed UCC to a packed Main Campus Pitch yesterday, despite Marty Kavanagh being removed from the game due to injury, won the game by a scoreline of 1-17 to 0-14

Seamus Casey was on fire scoring seven points with four from frees while a Rory Higgins goal helped cement IT Carlow’s dominance in the first half. Speaking about the goal IT Carlow manager DJ Carey believes the goal was much needed when it happened;

” You are always trying to tell players the ball is never dead until it goes dead. So get in around the square, it could be mishit, it could hit the post, it could do anything. He was there at the right place at the right time.”

“We were thrilled, we needed it at that time.”

'It's one of those goals back can't do a lot about' – @ITCarlowGAA manager DJ Carey was delighted with Seamus Casey's only goal in tonight's @ElectricIreland Fitzgibbon Cup Quarter-final win.

As mentioned Marty Kavanagh went down injured early, but it is not like they do not have quality throughout the side. The likes of Chris Nolan, Niall Brassil, and Cathal Dunbar all contributed with scores of their own. Carey seemed quite eager to heap praise on his players after the game when he caught up with Jerome Quinn after the game ;

“You ask players to do a job, no matter what we do or say, we can be called great lads because we (management) have the team moving. We haven’t them moving, it is the players that do it. We cannot train, it is not possible to train, we just do a lot of talking. The players have to go out and do it, it is as simple as that.

“We might get great praise for getting to a semi-final, or get great praise for a goal and point, but it is actually the players that are doing it out on the field.”

IT Carlow has reached the final twice in the last five years, however have never claimed the prize, can this be the year? With Two – Time young hurler of the year Eoin Cody due to come back after Shamrocks meet Ballygunnar in the All Ireland Club Championship Final.

In camogie, IT Carlow were knocked out of the Purcell Cup after a pulsating clash with Nui Galway.

The semi-final was dragged into extra time, however, ultimately the Connacht university booked their place in the final with a 4-09 to 2.07 win

The University of Limerick now stands in the way of the hurling contingent, with that game going ahead Thursday the 17th.
