Aye aye, captain! Darragh Foley believes Carlow will have no fear of Cavan

VIDEO: “Biggest game of the year”, says Carlow’s Darragh Foley on facing Antrim

Last weekend saw Carlow make it a third time lucky when they grabbed a win against Waterford.

The Barrowsiders suffered defeats to both London and Sligo in the opening rounds of the competition, however, the side was bolstered by some senior experienced players against the Deise. According to the manager Niall Carew, more names are expected to be back soon, and suddenly the horizon looks a bit brighter after that victory. Captain Darragh Foley, on his birthday no less, had a huge of relief come the final whistle; speaking to Scoreline he said;

“It was a bit of relief. The lads in there deserve that win, they have worked hard over the last few months. It is a very new group, I was talking to Daragh Curran, he is only 18 and he said it was his first competitive win with Carlow. It means a lot to me.”

“We played some great stuff against London, the sending off cost us that day. It was nice to be on the home pitch to rectify the wrongs of the last two games and get two points on the board. We are on the road now.”

“All the lads stepped up and really drove us on to get the win.”

Cavan Awaits

Carlow faces a tough task in trying to come away with a win from Breffini Park this weekend. Cavan has bested both Leitrim and Wexford, with their round three games versus Sligo being postponed last week. The captain though says Carlow will have no fear in them making the trip up north ;

“We are going up with nothing to lose. Cavan will be red hot favorites, going up to a lovely stadium, what more do you want? You want to express yourself and see how you get on with these top teams.”

“They probably shouldn’t be in division four, but they are, and they are for a reason. We will have no fear of them, we will go out and play football and see where it gets us.”
