On Sunday Brendan Hennessy and Willie Quinlan will be on hand at Netwatch Cullen Park for Carlow taking on Leitrim.

They are coming off the back of good performances against Waterford and Cavan, before the game I caught up with manager Niall Carew who started off looking back on the campaign as a whole two opening defeats to London and Sligo but Carew is confident that the issues experienced in those games are behind them ;

“In the first game against London, anyone that was at that game I suppose will feel that a few decisions went against us, Jamie Clarke getting sent off cost us big time. We didn’t cope with the extra man. especially after being ten points up. In the last ten minutes, we were found out.”

“In the Sligo game we were down nine or ten first-team players, and it was very unfair asking all the new lads to start, it was a big ask. So the heavy defeat did not help us, but we regrouped. We had that big win against Waterford, so we are in good shape coming into that Leitrim match.”

Another opportunity at home this Sunday to impress and take two points 🇬🇳

The 2017 Player of the Year, Andy Moran, was officially named as the replacement for Terry Hyland for Leitrim last Ocotber. We wanted to know ahead of the game how much of a challenge will Leitrim pose now that former Mayo legend is their new manager;

“The good thing is he is not playing! Obviously, he will bring great energy and a great bounce to them. They had a big win over Tipperary, London caught them but they had a good win over Waterford. Their form is similar to ours, they put in a good shift in against Cavan. So there won’t be much in it, we are confident, it’s in Carlow and we are on the rise.”

As we come up to the crescendo of the league, Scoreline asked what were the main aims between now and the end of the league. It seems that the goal to win the rest of your home games so that you can continue to build that connection between the supporters in the stands and the players on the pitch;

“Our goal is to finish with three wins, we have Leitrim, Tipperary, and Wexford as our last three games. I would be very confident we can compete very well and hopefully win those three games while we get ready for Louth in the championship. It is only a month, we are playing Louth on the 23rd of April, it will be a busy time but we are coming right at the right time.”

The game will be brought to you with thanks to Dan Morrissey Ltd, Carlow from 2pm. You can listen to the full interview will Niall tomorrow on Scoreline from 5pm.
