Harry Shine may have hit the first score of the day for the technical defending champions but it was Ardscoil Rís who shone through at full time on St. Patrick’s Day.
With Croke Park the venue for the 2022 Masita Post-Primary Schools Senior Hurling Final – better known as the Croke Cup Final or college All-Ireland final – the Kilkenny side had strong vocal support across the game among over 4,000 in attendance.
St. Kieran’s took an early lead but a scrappy first half was tied at six points apiece heading into the closing third, their Limerick counterparts finding their grove midway through the half.
Five unanswered scores from Ardscoil Rís had the Limerick school going into the break 0-11 to 0-06 ahead. But for a poorly taken penalty in the first half, the gap could be been wider still.
With five minutes of normal time remaining in the second half, St. Kieran’s College had battled back into contention, cutting the gap to just two points before David Kennedy found the back of the net for the Limerick side in the 56th minute, Kennedy finishing his day with 1-3 to his name.
Final score at Croke Park was Ardscoil Rís 1-17, St. Kieran’s College 0-15.
