KCLR, home of Scoreline and Scoreline.ie, have been named the recipient for 2021 of the Mick Dunne Memorial Award for Local Media by the Camogie Association.
Covering radio and newspaper, the local media award focuses on accuracy, consistency, quality and variety of coverage including match reporting, interviews, live updates for games and events while recognising the impact, colour and emotional appeal of pieces, locally and nationally, as well as the presentation of the content.
This is the second win at the awards for KCLR, having collected the Digital Promotion award for KCLR Fanzone – now Scoreline.ie – in 2016.
Alongside KCLR, five other winners were officially announced on Tuesday morning.
The 2021 Mick Dunne Memorial Awards recipients are:

The 2021 Camogie Association Media Awards recipients are:
- Best Media Innovation – The Camogie Report Podcast
- Digital Promotion – SportsDaz
- Photography – Aidan Ryan
KCLR’s Head of Sport, Ken McGuire, expressed his delight at the announcement of this year’s award winners.
“We’re delighted to accept the Mick Dunne Memorial Award for local media for 2021”, says McGuire.
“In a year where the camogie season started late but offered so much promise – and much-needed relief given restrictions imposed on sport throughout the pandemic – our on-air, online and match teams went all out to boost our coverage of the sport for 2021 and set a benchmark for 2022 and beyond.”
“We were able to bring on board a new dedicated camogie commentary team, launch the Camán Caint podcast and ensure that camogie has a place in our news and sports bulletins right across the week, bringing the sport from an also-ran to an ever-present.”
“As a result, we were able to expand our inter-county coverage to minor and intermediate grades, while adding additional flavour on-air across the club championships in Kilkenny and Carlow, while addressing national matters on Scoreline at weekends and increasing roundup coverage on Full Time and beyond across weekday programming.”
“It’s great to get the recognition for the work that’s being done by the entire team in-house, from on-air to commercial, the sidelines to guest and contributors, but it also gives us something to build on in relation to our camogie coverage and continue to improve our offerings.”
“Our most recent JNLR results [quarterly audience evaluation for commercial radio] saw our Scoreline sports show post it’s biggest numbers ever with the weekend edition now the most-listened-to programme on the station. The boost in our camogie coverage is certainly a contributing factor there, but it also means we’re able to push additional coverage to an even bigger audience than ever before.”
“We’re about to get stuck into the local schools championships for the first time in the station’s history and with inter-county championships just around the corner, there’s plenty more work to be done this year.”
The overall awards night take place on 30 April at Croke Park in conjunction with the 2021 Volunteer of the Year awards and the annual referee medal ceremony. 2021 marks the sixteenth year of the awards, honouring the contributions of local and national press and volunteers in the promotion and development of camogie.
