Marty Kavanagh and Carlow would not go down without a fight

First up in our triple-header last weekend was Carlow taking on Meath, with possible relegation looming if Tom Mullally’s men lost.

Fortunately, the Barrowsiders came away with the win, in a case of anything you can do we can do better. Meath scored 1:21 with Carlow going on to score 2:21. Both goals came from the stick of Chris Nolan, however, a staggering 17 points from the 21 were provided by Marty “Mouse” Kavanagh.

After the game, Marty went on Kevin Regan’s Left Wing Back podcast to have a look at the league campaign in general and the possibility of relegation;

“It was a weird campaign. We could have been in a league final with four wins. We should have beat Down, we were poor enough against Kerry and we should of beat Kildare. Against Meath, it was very nerve-racking enough, obviously, the main thing for us was to get the win and maintain our division two status, that was the main thing, anything after that would have been a bonus.”

“We dealt with the whole thing well, could have been a loss, and we could have made it easier on ourselves. We got out of there with a win, that was the main thing. “

Last year a devastating knee injury ruled out Carlow hitman Marty Kavanagh ahead of Joe McDonagh game versus Kildare. It has been a long road to recovery, with the Stalwart very eager to get back playing for his club St. Mullins. Speaking off his injuries to Kevin Regan, Kavanagh said

“I trained the last two weeks well, I suppose fitness is not where I want to be. Regards injuries and niggles, they seemed to have cleared up for now. It has been a frustrating few weeks for me personally, between the college and the county. Luckily they have cleared up now, so hopefully, I can get a good training regime going coming into the Joe McDonagh.”

There is a lot more discussed with Marty on the Left Wing Back Podcast, along with dealing with all the fallout from the Carlow football side of things. Check it out below.
