A hard-fought win for Kilkenny on Sunday afternoon has seen the Foulkstown club progress to the semi-finals of this year’s Bank of Ireland Provincial Towns Cup.
Two penalties from Hugh Corkery and a David O’Connor try made sure of the points for Kilkenny in a 13-8 win over neighbours Carlow in our live game on Sunday.
Immediately after the game, the draw for the semi-final stages was made in the Kilkenny club house throwing up a clash with Division 1A rivals Dundalk to determine a place in this year’s final.
Mullingar and Ashbourne are on the other side of the draw with the winners from each game set to meet in Cill Dara on Sunday 17 April to close out the junior rugby season in Leinster.
Speaking after their win over Carlow, Kilkenny try-scorer David O’Connor told Scoreline that they’re delighted to be through to this weekend’s semi-finals.
“I guess that’s cup rugby”, said O’Connor.
“Carlow might be a division below us but we were never taking anything for granted. We know how physical they are. If the score was the other way around, no one would question that. They’re a really good team, a young team.”
“We’ve got seven days to recover now, hopefully there’s not too many bangs. It’s a quarter-final, we’ll take a three-nil win in a quarter-final but over the moon to be in the semi-finals.”
Kilkenny’s clash with Dundalk has been fixed for Naas RFC, 3pm this Sunday.
