Kilkenny’s Martin Mulhall is following Carlow’s Bryan Byrne to Bristol Bears.

The Bears announced the signing of BUCS Super League front row trio of Mulhall, Fred Davies and Rhys Charalambous on Monday.

Mulhall came off the bench for Saracens last week in their Premiership Rugby Cup fifth-round clash with Wasps.

The move to Bristol marks his first professional contract. The Kells Road man has been in sensational form for Swansea University having moved to Wales last summer after a stint with Lansdowne FC.

“A key part of the Bears recruitment strategy is to find the players that have been missed through the conventional Academy pathways – we believe there are good opportunities to recruit mature young players who can make the step up”, says Pat Lam, director of rugby at the Bears.

“Fred, Martin and Rhys have enjoyed fantastic seasons in BUCS Super Rugby and have earned the opportunity to integrate with the first team squad next season.”

Carlow’s Bryan Byrne joined Bristol Bears on a permanent deal in 2020 following an initial loan move from Leinster. He’s made seven appearances so far this year, most recently putting in a full 80 minutes and picking up a try in the Bears’ 43-15 defeat to Gloucester in the Premiership Cup.
