There have been renewed calls to review the positioning of minor camogie fixtures in the annual calendar.
This year’s All-Ireland series was played out between February and March and while some counties will access minor players over the summer, others may not see competitive fixtures until 2023.
Kilkenny’s Paula Dowling has been sharing her thoughts on this week’s Camán Caint podcast.
“The logistics of why they play the minor championship so early in the year, I can understand on one level, but on the other level, it’s actually making little of the championship,” said Paula.
“Because when do you want to be hurling? You want to be hurling in the long summer evenings when the weather is good and the pitch is good quality and that doesn’t seem to be happening”.
“There’s a big jump from minor to adult, especially at intercounty level, and that’s even whether you’re talking about intermediate or senior, there has to be a transition forward”.
The current Kilkenny registrar spoke about moments from her own playing career at club and inter-county, with a particular view on the minor camogie scene and player development.
