The Carlow footballers had another tough day at the office on Sunday after conceding five goals against a much more physically imposing Louth side.
The Wee County went into this game hot favorites after an impressive League campaign that saw them promoted from Division 3.
It ended Louth 5-10, Carlow 10 points and after the game manager Niall Carew thought despite the result, his side played well in patches.
Meanwhile former Carlow footballer Willie Quinlan thinks that these results are coming from lack of investment in the youth structure.
“With strength and conditioning, we’re not doing the work from the U14’s 15’s, 16’s and 17’s,” said Willie.
“I’ve watched the U20’s all this year, most of the U20’s in other counties are ready to play senior football becuase they’re putting in the strength and conditioning”.
“I wouldnt say there was two or three from the Carlow U20’s that would step in physicality to play senior football, and that’s a concern”.
“I think we need to do a six year plan, to have the work put in, so that now when you’re an U20, and when you step into play senior, you’re ready and it doesnt seem to be such a big jump”.
