The draw for the inaugural Tailteann Cup was made earlier this week with Carlow taking on Tipperary in Netwatch Cullen Park on Sunday May 29th at 2pm in the first round, a game you can listen to live on KCLR.

Niall Carew’s side is in this competition following a first-round Leinster championship defeat to Mickey Harte’s Louth.

There’s been a lot of talk about the format of the Tailteann Cup and whether players will buy into it with Down’s Barry O’Hagan calling it pointless.

Carlow Captain Daragh Foley believes the competition is needed but the benefits won’t be seen until the format is changed, speaking to Scoreline he said ;

“It has been a bit rushed this year in that it is a one-off `game and the losers are out with no inter-county football for seven months.”

“Next year there are group stages and a bit more of a better format. So for the like of ourselves in division four, the competition is needed as there is a massive gulf there.”

“The only way we will improve is by getting games under our belt.”
