The countdown is on to this year’s Horizon Irish Open with word breaking at the weekend that all weekend tickets (Saturday and Sunday) have now sold out.
That’s going to put the squeeze on fans who are leaving this late to book a date at Mount Juliet for this year’s running of the competition, all set to kick off on Wednesday 29 June with the celebrity Pro-Am.
Monday afternoon saw the addition of three more names to the list including former Galway hurler Joe Canning, world number one disability golfer Brendan Lawlor and renowned jockey Johnny Murtagh. They’re set to play alongside Leona Maguire, actor James Nesbitt, former Leinster Rugby star Rob Kearney, ex-Man United and Republic of Ireland defender John O’Shea.
Today FM’s Dermot Whelan, Spencer Matthews and Greg O’Shea will also be teeing off in Thomastown later this month.
Of the Irish competitors announced for this year’s field, Shaney Lowry, Pádraig Harrington and Séamus Power will all be involved, Rory McIlroy, who played last year’s competition, has already said he’ll be missing this year’s event despite picking up a win at the Canadian Open over the weekend.
Last year’s Horizon Irish Open winner Lucas Herbert will be in Kilkenny to defend his title, along with Min Woo Lee, Ryan Fox, Tyrrell Hatton, Thomas Pieters and Thorbjorn Olesen.
