Champions Mount Leinster Rangers have got the defence of their Carlow Senior Hurling Championship off to a solid start with a routine victory against Bagenalstown Gaels.
Two goals from Diarmuid Byrne and Ciaran Kavanagh along with a cluster of points gave them a deserved 2-08 to 0-03 lead at the interval.
Paddy McDonald and Craig Doyle were the only scorers for Bagenalstown Gaels in the first half as they struggled to get to grips with the intensity their opponents brought to the encounter.
The second half took on much the same pattern with Teddy Joyce oozing class for Mount Leinster Rangers.
Craig Doyle and Paddy McDonald got quick-fire goals for Bagenalstown Gaels as they looked to put some gloss on an otherwise ugly scoreline.
Bagenalstown Gaels will have to pick themselves up for Friday’s clash with Naomh Brid.
Meanwhile, Mount Leinster Rangers will continue their campaign on June 26 against Ballinkillen.
