With 31 goals in 44 National League appearances, Pádraig Amond is officially a Cardinal.

The Carlow native has signed on with Woking for the 2022/23 Vanarama National League following his release from Newport County earlier this summer.

The 34-year-old previously featured for Accrington Stanley, was a player of the year at Grimsby as he notched up 30 goals in 40 league appearances for the Mariners and found himself scoring against Leicester, Man City and Spurs in the FA Cup while at Newport.

“When you look at the centre-forward market now and previously, and what was open and available to this football club, we never had what I would consider a serial goal-scorer that has shown repeatedly in his career that he can score goals”, said Woking Manager Darren Sarll.

“Padraig is exactly that. He has – as a character – a consistency in playing in high-pressure matches. He has a professionalism that I have always stressed about improving at the club, and he comes so fit and hungry to have a successful two years with us.

In his first interview for Woking, Amond expresses his delight at sealing a summer move to the Surrey club.

“I’m delighted to have gotten everything sorted”, Amond says.

“I’m really looking forward to the year. It’s a very progressive club that I’ve just joined and speaking to the manager, he’s got great plans for the club and I know there are great plans from the owners as well. It was very easy for them to sell it to me that way and I’m just really, really looking forward to getting started.”
