In what turned out to be an incredible scoring game at Parc Ui Rinn on Saturday night, Kilkenny booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Alllianz National Hurling League with a dramatic 2-23 to 2-22 win over Cork.
Having suffered three straight defeats, Cork came out all guns blazing and but in a ‘vintage’ Cork performance to push the Cats all the way. In the end, it was Kilkenny who needed a last gasp point from John Power to seal victory by the slimmest of margins.
With Dublin overcoming Waterford on Sunday, the result leaves Kilkenny in second place in the league, Dublin on top, followed by Waterford in third while Cork slump to a fourth consecutive defeat pitting them towards relegation concerns. Kilkenny, Dublin and Waterford have all qualified for the quarter-finals and the Cats welcome Dublin to Nowlan Park next weekend in a game that could determine who finishes top spot spot in Division 1A.
According to KilkennyGAA.ie, a win for Kilkenny should set up a quarter-final clash against Offaly or Wexford while defeat could pit Kilkenny against Limerick or Clare.
Adrian Ronan and Michael Walsh were at Parc Ui Rinn for KCLR and if it was a ‘vintage’ performance from Cork, it was equally the same from the commentary team.
