There’s been good news this week for some of Carlow, Kilkenny and Tullow RFC’s underage players.
On Thursday, the Leinster Rugby U18 clubs’ extended squad was announced with Damien McCabe including 39 players in the province’s upcoming summer programme. 23 clubs are represented with boys from Athy and Boyne (four each) representing the largest number from a single club.
Carlow’s Tadgh Ronan, Noah Cope and Cillian Moore are joined by Tullow’s Fionn Hickey and Peter Burgess in McCabe’s selection. The squad will shortly head to Malvern (near Birmingham) for a series of games against local sides in preparation for the summer interprovincial series in August.
Leinster will face Munster on 20 August before meeting Connacht on 27 August, followed by a home clash against Ulster on 3 September.
Tullow’s Katie Corrigan has been called up to the U18 girls squad. Corrigan is among 40 players selected from 20 clubs and schools with the girls’ interprovincial series getting underway on 27 August against Ulster.
Kilkenny’s Rachel Brickell has also been selected for the Leinster Rugby Southeast Area U18 squad.
