The winner of the David Buggy Motors Kilkenny Sport Star Award for July was announced last week and in case you missed it, it’s going to Graignamanagh Rowing Club’s Anna Brennan.
At just 16-years-old, Anna Brennan’s sights seem set far beyond the River Barrow.
It’s been a terrific regatta season for the Kilkenny youngster, winning the junior 16 single sculls category at regatta events in Neptune, Trinity, Carlow and Fermoy. On top of that, Anna was also successful in trials at the National Rowing Centre, Cork, for the junior 18 Irish sculling women’s team that competed in London at the Homes International Rowing Regatta.
Anna was also the junior 16 singles winner at the Irish junior championships, becoming the first Griaguenamanagh rower to do so, while also qualifying for the junior 18 finals. Those wins helped secure a place on the Irish team for the Homes International with Anna finishing second on the junior women’s single scull event and third with her crew in the quad event, in the process becoming the first of her club to represent Ireland and set another benchmark in Kilkenny sporting life.
All at Scoreline and KCLR wish Anna the very best for the future, congratulate her on her nomination as the David Buggy Motors Kilkenny Sport Star Award winner for July, and we’ll certainly be keeping an eye on her progress in the months and years to come.
