There will be some familiar allies on the sidelines with new Kilkenny senior hurling manager Derek Lyng in 2023.

Having guided the Kilkenny Under 20s to All-Ireland success this year, Lyng was appointed earlier this month as the successor to Brian Cody after 24 seasons at the helm of the senior setup.

The Kilkenny county board have confirmed the back room team for new senior hurling manager Derek Lyng.

Kilkenny Senior Hurling Management Team 2023 which will be ratified at the next County Board meeting : Michael Rice, Peter Barry, Peter O’Donovan and Conor Phelan. S & C : Mickey Comerford and John Murphy. Kilkenny GAA wishes them and manager Derek Lyng all the best.

Considered as a potential replacement to Lyng as Under 20 manager, Conor Phelan will continue as a selector alongside Lyng’s other Under 20 compatriots in Michael Rice, Peter Barry and Peter O’Donovan.

Mickey Comerford and John Phelan will be involved in the team’s strength and conditioning work with James McGarry and Martin Comerford departing alongside Cody.

The new management team will be ratified at the next Kilkenny county board meeting.

With the search on for a new under 20 manager and back room team, it remains to be seen if Michael Fennelly, now former Offaly manager, will be in the frame for the role.
