Limerick captain Declan Hannon was in Laois yesterday signing autographs for GAA mad fans at the ploughing championship.

The centre-back was there on behalf of Cuddy Hurls which is where he sources his ash. Cuddy Sports itself is based in Meelick, Portlaoise, and the All-Ireland-winning captain has been getting his sticks from there since at least 2017. This not so strangely coincides with Limerick’s dominance in Croke Park, having won four Liam McCarthy Cups since.

Speaking about The Treaty’s latest triumph with KCLR, Declan had kind words for Kilkenny;

“We had a great year in Limerick. A lot of games were tough, it went down to the wire but luckily enough we came out of the right side of it. So we are enjoying a bit of free time now.”

“Kilkenny are a fantastic team, they set the bar for hurling many years ago winning 4 in a row. They will be no doubt back next year, and I look forward to the challenge again next year.”

When asked by Sue Nunn if his greatness would travel over from the hurling field to a different type of field more in line with ploughing Declan had this to say;

“I would not be great on the farm!”

As Declan mentioned, Kilkenny set the bar for hurling teams to come. One of the men responsible for that dominance was none other then Richie Power. Why not listen to our deep dive with the man himself on the Clash Act podcast below:
