Here, we take a look at the second semi-final between Mount Leinster Rangers and Tinryland.
Mount Leinster Rangers vs Tinryland – Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Carlow Senior Football Championship semi-final – Sunday, 3.45pm, Netwatch Cullen Park
The second semi-final of the weekend sees two surprise packages take centre stage as they look to advance to next month’s decider.
Tinryland could not be in better form ahead of their first knockout game of the season.
They got the better of county champions Eire Og, Bagenalstown Gaels and Ballinabranna in the group stage which makes them the only team with a 100% winning record so far.
The only question mark that hangs over them is whether they have been challenged yet, with all three teams that they have defeated subsequently exiting the championship.
For Mount Leinster Rangers, they continue to perform at a high level in both codes.
Their footballers have matched the achievement of their hurlers with a semi-final place, and they can make history if they win on Sunday.
Both sides will be aware that such an opportunity to win a county championship may not come again for quite some time.
Whoever grasps their opportunity will be hard to stop in the final, but Tinryland’s lack of serious challenges may work against them this weekend.
Verdict: Mount Leinster Rangers have had a tougher road to this stage and that may prove to be the difference. Paul O’Brien’s men to win by a point.
