Kilkenny’s Under 20 hurlers will have a new man in charge for the 2022/23 season.

Dicksboro’s Mark Dowling will be ratified at this month’s county board meeting where he will take over the reins from Derek Lyng, Lyng having left the position to take over from Brian Cody as senior hurling manager earlier this year.

The finer details on Dowling’s backroom team will be announced in due course.

At a meeting tonight Kilkenny County Board Management Committee approved the selection of Mark Dowling (Dicksboro) as Kilkenny County Under 20 Manager.  Mark's appointment will be ratified at the September County Board meeting. We wish Mark all the best in the position.

A short statement released by Kilkenny county board late on Monday night confirmed the details.

“At a meeting tonight Kilkenny County Board Management Committee approved the selection of Mark Dowling (Dicksboro) as Kilkenny County Under 20 Manager. Mark’s appointment will be ratified at the September County Board meeting. We wish Mark all the best in the position.”

Dowling had previously guided Dicksboro to the senior county final in 2020 before taking up with Thurles Sarsfields last year, helping to steer the club to the Tipperary senior hurling final.

Kilkenny’s Under 20s won their first All-Ireland title since 2008 this past summer.
