The finalists for the Michael Lyng Motors Hyundai Kilkenny Senior Camogie Championship have been confirmed following Saturday’s semi-finals.
County champions Dicksboro took on Piltown this morning in a repeat of last year’s decider, while Ger Walsh’s Thomastown side went up against Peter Cleere’s Clara team later in the afternoon.
The first game of the day in Tullaroan saw Dicksboro comfortably get the better of Piltown on a scoreline of 0-21 to 0-10.
Donal Carroll’s side failed to pull away from their opponents throughout a tight first half despite the best efforts of the impressive Orlaith Hanrick and Lucinda Gahan, while Aine Doyle and Laura Norris kept Piltown within touching distance at the interval, Dicksboro 0-08 to 0-05 Piltown.
That was as close as the 2021 defeated finalists would get to the Boro, however, as the city club moved through to the gears to seamlessly pull away.
Jenny and Amy Clifford made no mistakes with fine efforts and the accuracy of Hanrick was too much for the Piltown backs to handle as they proved why they are champions and marched on to the county final in two weeks time.
Thomastown will be the opposition for Dicksboro following their 2-13 to 1-12 defeat of Clara.
Led by manager Ger Walsh, Thomastown were sharp from the off as a Therese Donnelly goal and a cluster of points helped them race into a 1-06 to 0-01 lead.
Clara responded with a goal of their own through Siobhan Curtis and a couple of Mary O’Connell frees that saw the scoreboard reading Thomastown 1-07 to 1-05 Clara at half-time.
Peter ‘Chap’ Cleere’s side reeled off five consecutive points at the start of the second half, but Thomastown refused to wilt and replied with another goal and a number of points as the game entered its final stages to deservedly secure their place in the decider.
