The first of an eight-race card in Gowran Park today goes to post at 1.30pm today (Tuesday) with Gowran Park manager Eddie Scally breaking down the day’s racing for us.

“The big question on everybody’s lips coming out here is can Billy Lee close the gap on Colin Keane in this year’s jockey’s title race. Colin opened the gap up to four at the weekend with four winners while Billy had no winners in Ireland as he was riding in England on Saturday and picked up no winners at the weekend outside of that. Billy has six opportunities today against Colin’s two and most likely his best chance will be drum and life for Willy McCreery in the 2.30 race. Later on the card at 4.35 he rides Blazing Trails for the same trainer.”

“Outside of that, Rachael Blackmore will be switching allegiances from jumps racing to flat racing when she takes the ride on Hermine for Willie Mullins in the 4.35 but she will most certainly have her work cut out for her in this race with Engagement Ring from Aidan O’Brien, ridden by Wayne Lorden, most likely be favourite.”

“To close out today’s card, the 5.10, we expect local trainer Joseph O’Brien definitely won’t be leaving Gowran Park without a winner today and we think he’s likely to get one in the last as well with White Caviar, ridden by Declan McDonagh. Joseph’s yard is in a brilliant run of form at the moment.”

Gowran Park’s usual courtesy busses leave the Kilkenny Castle gates at 12.30pm and return to the city at 5.30pm.

Going as of 9am is currently soft, heavy in places and the forecast is for a dry, cool day.
