“It is one of the most special wins we had” – Player of the Match Jenny Reddy elated with county final win

The Kilkenny club championships wrapped up on Saturday and soon we’ll be broke them all downin the studio for the Camán Caint podcast as that heads towards the Team of the Year edition.

The main event on the day was the clash between last year’s championsDicksboro and Thomastown, in which the country club came out on top with a single-point victory.

Speaking to Scoreline after the game Thomastown manager Ger Walsh was expecting a tight game, despite others favoring Dicksboro pre-game;

“We had a meeting during the week and we said we were going to war. We knew that is what it was going to take, between conditions and the ‘boro, and we did (go to war).”

“We threw everything at them, and they threw everything at us, and we were lucky to come out of the top. It just should with the last play of the game to come up and get that score, epitomizes what we are about which is work rate, heart, determination, and comradery.”

They’ll now play St. Vincent’s of Dublin in a Leinster senior club semi-final on November 12th. The clash is just three weeks away, however one person is not looking too far ahead, and that player was nominated as player of the match, of course, we are talking about Jenny Reddy. Being one of the more senior members of the squad, Reddy was more in favour of savouring the moment after such a battle than looking ahead to the provincial;

“I just cannot believe it, we came in and we knew we would have a serious battle ahead. It is one of the most special wins we had.”

“We knew Dicksboro are such a good team, we wouldn’t have a chance against them unless we worked really hard. If we did not work hard, we could have gotten hammered so we knew we had to (work hard). I know we lost some girls in the team, which were huge losses but some of the younger girls really stepped up.”

“I am pushing on and I was by far the oldest out there. I think I can enjoy the games a bit more because I know my days out there are limited.”
