Having enjoyed two years at Mount Juliet in Kilkenny, the Horizon Irish Open is off to the K Club in Kildare for 2023, 2025 and 2027 – this much we already knew.
Confirmed on Tuesday morning, the Horizon Irish Open will have a new place on the DP World Tour calendar with the tournament moving from its June/July dates to early September.
It’s the second hosting of the competition for the K Club on the 2006 Ryder Cup course and the first since Rory McIlroy claimed top honours in 2016 with the creme of Irish talent (and potentially more with the move) descending on Straffan from 7-10 September. Horizon Therapeutics took over as title sponsor in February 2022, signing a six-year title sponsorship arrangement and driving prize money to the region of $6m.
Adrian Meronk made history at Mount Juliet this past July to become the first-ever Polish winner on the DP World Tour, taking the Horizon Irish Open by three shots from Australia’s Ryan Fox.
“We are incredibly excited to announce a new date for the Horizon Irish Open and we are looking forward to returning to The K Club next September”, says Simon Alliss, championship director of the Horizon Irish Open.
“The Irish Open is one of the highlights of Ireland’s sporting calendar and we look forward to staging the event at a time when European golf will be at the forefront of everyone’s mind ahead of the Ryder Cup.”
The full 2023 DP World Tour calendar is yet to be confirmed.
