It was a mixed bag of results for Kilkenny and Carlow teams in Leinster football action this weekend

On Sunday Palatine welcomed a strong Portarlington team to Netwatch Cullen Park.

After a positive start for the home side, it was the Laois club who came out on top with a convincing scoreline of 3-19 to 0-09.

The end of the line for our gallant senior team, an excellent @PortGAA side proving too strong for us on the day. What a year it’s been though. Huge thanks to the players and management team for giving us a season to remember. Roll on 2023, Cnoc Arda Abú ❤️🏆💚. @Carlow_GAA pic.twitter.com/qUaOHMU7gb

Speaking to Scoreline after the game Pado Flynn put the loss down to a lack of experience at this level;

“To get experience, you need to gain experience, and unfortunately we gained an experience that to get into the last four in Leinster we need to come up another level.”

“A few bounces of the ball just did not go our way, which would have kept us in the game. We needed to be in the game at halftime, and six points (between the sides) probably was not a fair reflection of the first half.”

“We pushed up looking for the scores, they punished us, got 1-03 unresponded, that was game over.”

There were positives to be had and after the game recent Laois intercounty retiree John Loughlin was impressed with some of the Carlow players despite the loss.

“Commiserations to Palatine, it just was not their day. We saw Shane O’Neill kick three absolutely outstanding points in the second half. Conor Crowly looks like a real prospect, and Joshua Egan did some really promising things. it is disappointing for them but that is sport.”
