Both Shamrocks and St. Mullins are heading to Croke Park for the Leinster Semi-Finals.

Our early throw-in Sunday on Kclr was the Leinster quarter-final clash between Shamrocks and Castletown Geoghan. The Kilkenny county champs came away from UPMC Nowlan Park with a massive 25-point victory.

Speaking to Scoreline after the game Richie Reid outlined how Shamrocks may have learned from past mistakes in Leinster competition.

“We wanted to come and put in a performance really”, said Reid after Sunday’s win at Kilkenny GAA headquarters. “It wasn’t [about] going out to beat them by so many points. We can’t really take anything for granted.”

“We saw last year we came close to getting knocked out in a Leinster semi-final (Shamrocks beat Rynagh 3-24 to 2-18 after extra time). This year it’s really concentrating on every team that we’re playing in Leinster and we’re looking forward to a semi-final in two weeks.”

Shamrocks were without the injured TJ Reid and suspended Paddy Mullen, however, as always the five-in-a-row champs, have a sleuth of young hurlers sticking their hands up to be called upon. Richie took time out to praise some of them after a terrific dominant performance.

“We speak about the squad, and there is a panel of young lads coming through. If lads are missing, lads are getting the chance to come on. In fairness to Killian Corcoran, he got some points today, along with Niall Shortall. They took their chances.”

It marks the start of a good week for the club as they’ll be launching a new book, The Shamrocks Story, this coming Saturday in Carrolls of Knocktopher at half past seven, all as part of the club’s 50th-anniversary celebrations.
