It’s Day 9 at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
We’ve got another four group games today with more exits a possibility and already we’ve seen Germany hold on to their World Cup hopes while Canada crashed out on Sunday thanks to a 4-1 thumping at the hands of Croatia.
Up first, it’s Cameroon and Serbia and we’ve got a shakeup in the Cameroon lineup with Rigobert Song dropping Andre Onana after a falling out over the weekend – a huge call for your first-choice goalkeeper.
A win is a must for both sides here with a losing result potentially spelling the end of their World Cup journey should Brazil and Switzerland finish in a draw. That game gets underway at 10am.
South Korea take on Ghana in Group H at 1pm and after a dull scoreless draw with Uruguay in the first round, Son Heung-min and co. know they need to step up if they’re to advance to the knockout stages.
Ghana gave as good as they got in their 3-2 defeat to Portugal last time out, they’ll be relying on Andre Ayew to drive the African nation to a win where they could potentially leapfrog South Korea and Uruguay into second place.
Today’s 4pm kick-off is between Brazil and Switzerland with Neymar and Danilo already confirmed to miss this afternoon’s game. Both sides picked up wins in round 1; the last time they met in a World Cup (Russia 2018) they played to a 1-1 draw. Brazil will still be heavy favourites here and Richarlison was on fire last time out but Switzerland will be no pushovers.
The last game of the day sees a now club-less Cristiano Ronaldo lead Portugal to battle against Uruguay – a win there seals their place in the knockout stages. The South Americans were stale against South Korea last week and couldn’t hit a shot on target in 90 minutes. They’ve got the talent in the squad to make something happen but need Nunez, Cavani and co to step up as a win tonight blows the group wide open and leaves them top of the table heading into round 3.
We’ll have updates across the morning and evening on air with our sports updates.
