There is some great news for local soccer as Thomastown United has become the latest club to be awarded the FAI club mark Entry Level award
The club currently boasts over 400 players throughout their club in the underage and senior level and has plans for full all-weather sand-based pitches which will enable the club to move to an FAI standard for Regional Centre of Excellence status.
The country club has proudly produced many fantastic players throughout the Kilkenny league and beyond. Illustrious alumni include Colm Whelan and Ellen Molloy. Whelan’s exploits have earned him regular call-ups to Jim Crawford’s under-21 Irish squads and become shortlisted for PFAI First Division Player of the Year. While Ellen Molloy has picked up numerous awards and international caps including being named on the WNL team of the year last week.

Speaking to the Head of Coaching with Thomastown United Tom Buckley, it was clear how much this meant to the club;
“We are delighted to receive the FAI Club Mark Award in Thomastown United, a lot of hard work went on behind the scenes from our committee and volunteers (too many to mention).
“It’s a credit to all in the club who put in Trojan work week in and week out in United Park while we prepare for the next phase of our development.”
Onwards and upwards as they say, “We go again!” as Thomastown United like to say. All of us at Scoreline wish them continued success in the future.
