The UCC Sport Scholarships for the 2022/23 academic year were announced earlier this week with a number of students from Kilkenny and Carlow included on an 82-strong list of recipients.
In all, 17 sports are represented, varying from athletics to kickboxing, rowing to tennis, rugby, football and more. The Cork university’s sport scholarship programme aims to support athletes achieve their full potential and is divided into two main strands UCC Team Sport Scholarships and UCC Individual Sport Scholarship.
Through the scholarship programme, UCC students, including 16 First Year recipients, will be supported to develop and progress as talented athletes and meet their academic goals through the UCC Sport Performance Programme. UCC Sport’s performance programme aims to support UCC teams and athletes to perform to their full potential.
Locally to Scoreline and KCLR, five students representing Kilkenny and Carlow have been included in this year’s list. They are Ruby Millet (Kilkenny, athletics), Amy Dooley (Carlow, basketball), Micaela Sanderson (Kilkenny, hockey), Joe Fitzpatrick (Kilkenny, hurling) and Patrick Vaughan (Kilkenny, table tennis).
The university works with its clubs, coaches and specialist staff in the areas of sports science, conditioning, nutrition, sports medicine, sports physiology and sports analysis. UCC also works in partnership with national governing bodies, provincial sports organisations, and with Sport Ireland in the delivery of their high-performance strategy.
