Bridge United enjoyed a 5 -1 victory over Fort Rangers at the weekend in the Kilkenny & District Premier Division.
Bridge is one of two Kilkenny teams left in the FAI Cup, along with Evergreen. Dolmen Celtic, Thomastown, Fort Rangers, and Monread Celtic have already been dispatched in the competition, with Dublin opposition Crumlin United their opponents in the last 32.
Speaking to Scoreline, former Wexford FC player and current Bridge United captain Conor English said they won’t fear the Dublin side when they come up against them;
“You have to have belief going into these games, some people look at us as a club and say “ahhhh Bridge United”. Outside Kilkenny and even inside Kilkenny the last couple of years, they might fancy themselves. We are trying to change that whole mentality.”
“To answer any questions about Crumlin United, with all due respect to them, we do not fear them.”
“We have put in a lot of hard work this season, bringing in players, the right kind of players.”
One of those players recently added to the ranks is former Wexford and Cobh Ramblers player Nathan West, who scored two in his debut against Fort Rangers at the weekend. Adding a player of his calibre to the ranks no doubts bode well for the future of the Goresbridge side, who can also look forward to a Pat Maher Shield semi-final in the coming weeks.
