The wind down to Christmas is very much on but we’ve still got sport stories to write and navigate, so here are some of the headlines doing the rounds at Scoreline HQ for your Tuesday morning.
In camogie, James Stephens’ Hannah Scott says while the club’s All-Ireland defeat at the weekend is tough to take, their team is going from strength to strength. Their loss to Clondfuff was only their third in four years with the club having risen up the ranks in Kilkenny from junior to senior over the past three seasons.
Scott’s been praising her teammates to KCLR as they call it a day on the intermediate grade for at least a year. Meanwhile, speaking on last night’s Full Time, analyst Áine Farrell reckons the Village will be a force to contend with in the senior grade next season. County trials in Carlow
In football, Carlow LGFA have announced two further county trials for their under 16 side. The first takes place this Thursday night on the outside pitch at Netwatch Cullen Park, getting underway at a quarter to seven. The second is booked for Thursday the 29th at a quarter to eleven. The initial extended squad will be picked off the back of the second trial.
Under 14 trials go ahead tomorrow evening, same venue from a quarter to seven.
There should be one game in Carlow tonight as well with the Stryve Under 20 football championship A quarter final between Bagenalstown Gaels and Clonmore slated for half past seven in Fenagh.
Let there be light
And on the hurling front, if you’re planning to catch some intercounty action in the new year, the Kilkenny v Wexford game set for the third round of the Walsh Cup will be the first game under floodlights at Chadwicks Wexford Park.
Evening hurling will be a new thing in Wexford but with works already underway this month, it’s expected everything will be ready for January 21st at a project cost of close to €900,000.

Argentina celebrate, League Cup returns
The victorious Argentina squad have arrived back in the capital, Buenos Aires, following their World Cup triumph. Hundreds of thousands of fans are expected to greet Lionel Messi and the squad later today as Argentina celebrates a national holiday.
The runners up – France – were also cheered by thousands of supporters in Paris last night.
There’s more football tonight with fourth-round matches taking place in the Carabao Cup. Newcastle face Bournemouth in the only all Premier League affair. Elsewhere, Leicester go to the MK Dons, it’s Southampton v Lincoln City, and Wolves face Gillingham. All of those games kick off at 7.45.
