Derek Lyng’s reign began on a positive note with a victory over Offaly in John Locke Park.
Two goals from Glenmores Ian Byrne and Conahy Shamrocks Tom Phelan, along with Galmoys Billy Drennan putting on a free-taking exhibition secured Derek Lyng’s first victory as Kilkenny manager.

The final score on the day was Kilkenny 2-19 to Offalys 0-21, after the game Derek Lyng seemed quite pleased to have such a tight contest
“It was very competitive. The appetite for these competitions from everyone is there. We knew it was going to be very competitive, Offaly has a good bit of work done. “
“We are only back hurling since Christmas. I was very happy, and we were very happy, we made plenty of mistakes, and we were trying to do the right thing, but the effort was there. “
“We will have to build on it again this week, and look for improvements again next week.”
