Laois awaits Kilkenny in the second round of the Walsh Cup, with the O’Moore County earning a two-point victory against Wexford in their first game in the cup.
Offaly provided the opposition for Kilkenny’s opening game with goals from Glenmores Ian Byrne and Conahys Tom Phelan helping secure the first victory for Lyng’s reign.
Win for Derek Lyng and @KilkennyCLG in their first game since 1998 without Cody, but @Offaly_GAA men can hold their heads high after a strong performance under Johnny Kelly.

We will have full live coverage this Sunday of the Round 2 game starting at 1.30 pm and before the game Cats manager Derek Lyng, when speaking to KCLR Scoreline said his side are certainly in the competition to win it;
“I am happy to get going. The next month is going to fly, it is going to be game-on-game, but that is what we want and want to see. Get to see the players in action, and no better place to see what they are like in competitive games.”
“Laois have shown over the years, same as Offaly, that they have really good hurlers. They will be a challenge, they have a good bit of work done, it will be competitive.”
“We want to win, that is the whole point of it. So we will see where that takes us, hopefully, it will be enough to land us in the knockout-stages.”
