Pop Saturday June 18th in your diaries now.
Red Bull are bringing their Longest Day event to Kilkenny Castle in just under two months as the country’s only ‘dawn to dusk hurling and camogie tournamet’. Kilkenny and Danesfort hurler Richie Hogan along with Galway’s Joe Canning and Cork camogie captain Ashling Thompson were on handy recently to shoot this typically Red Bull-flavoured promo video for the mid June event.
Registration is open if you fancy your chances, limited to 24 hurling teams and 16 camogie teams.
As Joe Canning says,
“This year is set to be even bigger and better than last year. With 24 hurling teams and 16 camogie teams taking part, I have no doubt it’ll be seriously competitive. Spectators will get to see some really skilful hurling.
Last year’s event under the Rock of Cashel was really exciting, there was fire surrounding the pitch giving a really medieval feel and the games themselves were brilliant, really competitive.”

For Richie Hogan, history certainly lends itself to the event.
“I really like the idea of the event. I am very passionate about the promotion of hurling, so the idea of a 5-aside, all-day hurling event, sounded really fantastic to me. I am especially excited to see this event taking place right in the middle of Kilkenny city which is probably the home to Irish hurling, so there is a great bit of history to it.”
You can register a panel of 10, with teams of five (and unlimited subs) competing for top honours. While Red Bull will throw an after-party post-event, the winning team in both hurling and camogie tournaments can look forward to a trip to an international red Bull eevnt or a pre-season training camp worth €5,000, a session with world-renowned strength and conditioning coach, Mike McGurn along with a set of 10 Canning hurleys for each winning team.
