Having lost in her first three All Ireland Finals, Anne Dalton finally reached the mountain top in 2016.
After that victory, incredibly, Kilkenny lost the next three finals in a row. Bloodied but unbowed, Anne persisted, building a reputation as one of the all-time greats of the game. Salvation eventually came in 2020 when the Cats won the championship, with Anne’s wife, former Waterford player Karen Kelly, and their three children cheering her on from their home.
Scoreline caught up with Anne ahead of the premiere of her episode on TG4 tonight who seemed a bit surprised by the accolade;
“I just got contacted by the programme, and asked if would I be interested in doing it. I obviously had a think about it and spoke to Karen about it. It is a massive honor, it is one of those things as a GAA fan and supporter, I have followed the different people that had be shown every year. So to be asked, while it took me a day to go back and say yes, it is an absolute honour to do it.”
“I knew the call was coming, but I presumed I was being asked to be interviewed about someone else! I was a bit shocked, but it was a good surprise.”
