News broke last week that Michael Rice would not be returning to the Kilkenny senior panel for this summer’s senior hurling championship, alongside Brian Kennedy.
Rice didn’t feature at all for Kilkenny in the league stages but didn’t take that as a sign that the writing was on the wall.
“I knew coming back this year that I absolutely wanted to do one thing and that was give a hundred percent, go as hard as I could, and see where it took me.
Myself and Brian (Cody) would have had a few chats throughout the year, we would have been both on the same page of what I was trying to do. The league came and went but I suppose I was just concentrating on training as hard as I could throughout that.
I’ve had a few injuries over the last few years. Obviously the big one was the cruciate there in 2014 and that kind of took its time in getting right and along with that comes a few different muscle injuries which can be very frustrating.”
While he won’t feature again for Brian Cody’s side, his attention is very much on the club scene.
“If you’re happy with yourself that you’ve given it everything, I don’t think there’s any issue in that regard. I’ll be just concentrating on my club action. I think it’s certainly a situation where Kilkenny will be moving on and driving towards the championship.”
The Carrickshock clubman sat down with KCLR’s Michael O’Leary on Thursday afternoon. Take a listen to the full interview below.
