Kilkenny native Gavan Holohan helped engineer one of the greatest FA Cup shocks of all time last night.
The former Cork City midfielder scored a pair of penalties, as Grimsby Town of League Two won 2-1 away to Southampton. Grimsby will return to the English south coast in the quarter-finals, having been drawn away to Brighton. Holohan told ITV that it couldn’t have gone much better.

Gabriel Martinelli struck twice as Arsenal hammered Everton 4-nil at the Emirates Stadium last night. The victory moves Arsenal five points clear at the top of the Premier League, while Everton stays a point from safety.

Liverpool’s top 4 ambitions are very much alive courtesy of their 2-nil defeat of Wolves. Virgil Van Dijk and Mo Salah scored in the second half at Anfield to send the Reds sixth in the table, six points off the Champions League places.

Elsewhere in the Lynch Cup Quarter Final last night SETU Carlow bowed out of the competition at the hands of MTU Cork with that game finishing 3.6 to 5.11
However, the fresher footballers have a change of glory tonight when they take on TUS Midlands in division 2 final.

In the world of local rugby, there was a big win for Tullow Community School yesterday in the Duff Cup semi-finals.
The junior Junior team went up against Good Counsel and came away from the game with a 24 to 17.
Connacht Director of Rugby Andy Friend says they wanted Kieran Marmion to stay with the province.
The scrum-half has confirmed he’s leaving the Sportsground when his contract runs out at the end of this season.
Marmion is Connacht’s third most-capped player of all time and helped them win the Pro 12 title in 2016.
Golf
The Arnold Palmer Invitational field includes four Irish players.
Seamus Power is the first to tee off at Bay Hill in Florida just after 1pm, Irish time. Past winner Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and Padraig Harrington are all out between 5 and 6.
Meanwhile, Leona Maguire carded a 2 under opening round of 70 at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore. She is in a tie for 14th. American Elizabeth Szokol leads on 8 under.
