Coming up on KCLR: Liam Griffin bemoans shortage of children playing hurling, St. Kieran’s College look to make All-Ireland final and Kilkenny continue league campaign

It’s a busy weekend of hurling and camogie action on KCLR.

With the Allianz National Hurling League taking a break, all eyes will be on St Kieran’s College on Saturday afternoon as their quest to make another All-Ireland senior final continues.

The Kilkenny school travel to Birr to take on Cashel Community School in St Brendan’s Park.

Following a hard-fought encounter with Offaly Schools that ultimately ended in a narrow defeat in the Leinster final, Brian Dowling’s side bounced back with a comfortable victory over St Raphael’s in last month’s All-Ireland quarter-final.

Their last-four clash throws in at 12.45pm with full live commentary on KCLR.

Immediately after that game, another of Brian Dowling’s team take to the Parnell Park pitch.

The Kilkenny senior camogie team travel to the capital as they go in search of their first victory in this season’s Very Ireland Camogie League.

The All-Ireland champions have suffered two straight defeats to Clare and Galway in the opening rounds and will be determined to respond as preparations for the championship enter full swing.

Live commentary of that game begins at 2pm with Martin Quilty and Aine Farrell based at Dublin GAA Headquarters for KCLR.

There’s a lot more to look forward to after the matches, with legendary hurling figures taking to the airwaves from 4pm onwards.

In a special two-part interview this Saturday and Sunday at 4pm, Wexford’s 1996 All-Ireland winning manager Liam Griffin tells Scoreline why he feels hurling is no longer in the top 10 most played sports in Ireland, he explains the issues with the modern game from a spectator’s perspective and he ranks Kilkenny’s chances of ending their eight-year wait for an All-Ireland title under new manager Derek Lyng.

We’ll also be discussing Kilkenny’s last two league games of 2023 with two-time All-Ireland winning goalkeeper and KCLR analyst Michael Walsh.

It’s another bumper weekend of action and we have you covered on KCLR.
