Scoreline Morning Report on KCLR

Tuesday starts with some good news for reigning Kilkenny senior hurling champion Ballyhale Shamrocks, so let’s take a look at the stories making the headlines on KCLR and Scoreline.ie today.

Shamrock Surprise

While they’ll be preparing for their big race day at Gowran Park this week, including the presentation of their latest round of senior county and club All-Ireland medals, they top the headlines this morning with the news that eight of their players have been included in the AIB GAA Club Hurling Team of the Year.

Those are Killian Corcoran and Joey Holden in the full-back line, Richie Reid and Darragh Corcoran in the half-back line, Adrian Mullen at midfield, Eoin Cody and TJ Reid at half forward and Colin Fennelly at full forward. Joey Holden and Adrian Mullen also find themselves in the running for the overall Player of the Year alongside Ballygunner goalkeeper Stephen O’Keeffe.

Elsewhere, the draws for the JJ Kavanagh & Sons, Iverk Produce and Country Style Foods Junior Hurling A through F championships in Kilkenny have been made with details online this morning at Scoreline.ie.

On the schools front, preparations are well underway at St. Kieran’s College as they have this week and next to get ready to face Presentation College Athenry in this year’s colleges senior A hurling final on St. Patrick’s Day

It’s a three o’clock throw-in time at Croke Park, a game that we’ll have live in full here again on KCLR, and speaking on our Full Time show last evening, manager Brian Dowling says they’ll have plenty of support heading to Dublin this year.

Also joining Full Time last night was our football analyst Willie Quinlan who says it’s a case of onwards and upwards now for Carlow’s senior footballers. While promotion might be beyond reach this season from Division 4, they’ll have this week off before facing two tough games in Sligo at home and Wexford away. For Willie, it’s clear what the support means to the players as they look to finish the league season on a high. You can hear Willie’s full segment on Full Time below.

Kilkenny’s Women pipped at the post

Kilkenny women were pipped to the Division 4 league title at the weekend, ending level on points with MU Barnhall but behind on the head to the head.

While they’ll take to the Paul Cusack Cup this weekend, they now have a playoff to look forward to against Greystones in a fortnight’s time with a place in Division 3 at stake for next year.

Fulham lose out, Champions League returns

In the Premier League, Brentford beat Fulham 3-2 with Ivan Toney scoring his 15th league goal of the season in the victory.

Chelsea trail Borussia Dortmund 1-0 entering the second leg of their Champions League last 16 tie at Stamford Bridge tonight. Kick off is at 8. Reece James and Christian Pulisic could feature for Graham Potter but Thiago Silva is injured and Mason Mount is suspended.

The other Champions League game tonight sees Benfica host Club Bruges – with a 2-0 advantage from the first leg.

In the Championship, Huddersfield Town meet Bristol City from 7.45. At 8pm, it’s Reading versus Sheffield United and West Brom up against Wigan Athletic.
