With camogie on a high in Carlow following the victory of our senior team against Laois in the Leinster Intermediate Championship Replay another first for Carlow Camogie will see the county field two Under 14 Development Squads at the Leinster Under 14 Blitz on Sunday in Portlaoise.
Following an outstanding response from clubs for young Under 14 girls to take part in the Under 14 Development Squad model in 2016 it was decided to have two squads for 2016 – Carlow Green and Carlow Red. Over the past few weeks the girls have been training well in anticipation of this blitz with some good results and performances along the way in challenge matches.
In total close to 50 girls have trained with the squad since mid March with squad coaches Mick Lillis, Breda O’Dwyer, Lisa Nolan with assistance from James Connolly and James Behan with the overall Under 14 Development Model overseen by Development Officer Ger Power.
Carlow Camogie is very proud of this achievement and wish to thank the club coaches and indeed all parents who have encouraged their daughters to take part in the squads. Our endeavours to field two squads in 2016 have been complimented by the National Coaching and Development Committee and we look forward to seeing much more of these squads over the coming months.
