In what was possibly the last senior team announcement for Kilkenny to be issued on a Friday night (for the foreseeable at least), Derek Lyng’s side to face Limerick in Sunday’s Allianz Hurling League Division 1 final has been named.
It was announced earlier this week that the GAA intend to publish championship team details by lunchtime on Fridays this season. Teams typically have to have their matchday selections submitted well in advance of the weekend to facilitate program printing, for example.

Regardless, Kilkenny’s team chosen for Sunday’s Allianz Hurling League decider against the reigning All-Ireland senior hurling champions does spring a surprise or two. Adrian Mullen, not having featured competitively for club or county since Ballyhale’s club All-Ireland semi-final pre-Christmas, returns to the starting fold and is named in the half-forward line. Clubmate and team talisman TJ Reid is named on the bench for what would be his first competitive appearance of the year having sat out the Walsh Cup and League runs.
Billy Ryan and Richie Reid return to start with captain Eoin Cody also named in the corner. Richie Hogan, who featured for the Cats in their semi-final win over Cork, is not included in the matchday squad.
